The State of Things

So I missed my deadlines. How surprising.

So, just a quick update on a few things.

1. GEEKDOM MADNESS:
I was late. I screwed up. It will be set later today after this. I deeply apologize.

2. JEDI NEWS:
I submitted an article about a month ago that never went up, and I didn't want to bug my editor without another article, and I just haven't had anything new to say on Star Wars in a while.

3. OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
Hey, remember when I used to do posts looking at interesting points and developments from things other than Star Wars? There's a bunch of that I'd still REALLY like to do, but I can't coalesce my thoughts enough to produce something coherent. I'd like to promise they'll be here soon, but you know what tends to happen when I say things like that (R.I.P. Anniversary Reviews...)

4. ASK THE NILBOG:
I have not forgotten about that, just wanted to give another week or so for last-minute questions. I will answer one of those questions now though as a sneak preview because it pertains a lot to all of the above: Do you have a job yet? Well, no. I have an angle or two that I'm working that have very high chances, but any actual hiring consideration won't be for at least another month, and I'm almost out of unemployment. The stress over our finances and trying to secure these "angles" of possible employment have left me lightly baked to a tender and savory crisp, so that when I do de-stress I just escape into more private and personal forms of leisure (mostly Blizzard games, which I REALLY want to do a series on soon).

5. THE FUTURE:
Like I said, I don't want to make any promises that I'm not sure I can keep, and those of you who still read this have stuck with me through more burnouts and sabbaticals than it's fair to ask. But having this site really does mean a lot to me, and I want to make a better effort at giving you guys more content, and consistent content. I don't know when I'll have the time and energy for this, and I don't know what form it will take, but I hope that when it happens you'll still be there.

GM 16: Temper Temper/Walas' Nightmares Victors

Well, this had some interesting results. I had to pull out every tiebreaker method I had for Match 1 - and that tied too! In the end, I decided to go with who had the earlier lead.

The Victors for the fourth round of the preliminaries are...

Rorschach
"Must investigate further..."

and...

Gremlins
"Now was that civilized? No, clearly not. FUN, but in no sense civilized"

The Gremlins won handily with 5 votes out of 6 (83%). However, while Rorschach had an early lead, he ended up tied with Donald Duck. As a result of that and my ties in the tiebreakers, I will make Donald exempt from Total Elimination, and he will still remain in the candidate pool for the future.

However, we must still hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Seth Brundle ("I'll hurt you if you stay!")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!

GM16: Mad Bombers/Run like the Wind Victors

Well, those were clear victories!

The Victors for the third round of the preliminaries are...

The Green Goblin
"This is why only fools are heroes - Because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice!"

and...

The Roadrunner
"BEEP BEEP *zip-tang!*"

Goblin won handily with 8 votes out of 10 (80%) and a clear lead. Roadrunner outstripped his opponant's early lead by a mid-week influx leaving him 7 votes out of 9 (78%).

Now, let's hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Slappy Squirrel ("Ah forget it. Here's some dynamite down your pants!") and Sylvanas Windrunner ("I have no time for games!")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!

GM16: Tall, Dark, and Moody/Mind Games Victors

Sorry for the delay, I'm still struggling to get back on any sort of schedule. Then again, given the lackluster voting numbers, we all may be.

The Victors for the second round of the preliminaries are...

Severus Snape
"Clearly, fame isn't everything"

and...

The Riddler
"Riddle me this: The poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it you'll die. What is it?"

Snape won 5 votes out of 7 (71%), and the Riddler snagged 4 out of 6 (66%). Some of our lower numbers, but we're just getting going.

Now, let's hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Lt. Worf ("There is nothing shameful in falling to a superior enemy.") and Jean Grey ("It's better this way. Quick. Clean. Final.")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!
