In lieu of my own articles...

...here's one that's better than I could ever be. I didn't think it possible anymore, but it blew even MY mind.

  1. Bravo for Mike Klimo! This article proves what I always thought, that the PT and OT films are much more alike than different, no matter what the internet blow hards like Mike Stoklasa say.

  2. Admittedly, just seeing Mike Klimo's title, my mind leapt to the Ring of the Nibelungs and the Lord of the Rings.

It's a properly insightful piece and I advise spreading it far and wide. I hope J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson have taken notes.

  3. Thank you so much for posting this Nilbog! And you guys for reading it. It really does mean the world to me.

I'm trying to shout this from the rooftops so any help spreading this around on social media would be much appreciated. The films (and Lucas, who I know consider "Lord of the Rings) deserve serious critical attention for this. Simply put, it's a monumental cinematic accomplishment.

And I was thinking the same thing about JJ and Rian. But do they even know about this? For me, that's the million dollar question. I mean, were they told about this? Did they figure it out? Is Lucas, who's typically far too humble, keeping this one to himself?

    Anyways, thanks again. MTFBWY.

    -Mike Klimo

    1. Hey, it deserves it.

I still support "flashback order" for first-time viewers in order to preserve some narrative surprises, but if your essay proves anything it's that repeat viewings require Episode order for full appreciation of the films.

    1. Don't have iTunes, nor money for movies right now. Going to see if it hits YouTube this weekend. What a perfect subject for my glorious return to JediNews...

    2. Wasn't too bad, but pails to the older SW trailers. The effects shots were much more over the top than what Lucas ever did. Hopefully the whole fim won't have ships flying so low to the surface all the time like in the trailer.

    3. I think it's a solid third (after the very original teaser and the TPM one), but tbh it's got me pretty excited. I don't think any of the effect shots are all that over the top, though, don't know exactly what you're meaning there.

  5. One which I already stated was all the ships flying really low to the ground / water surface. Also we never saw the ships in the earlier 6 films perform all those flipping around aerobatics in a atmosphere like the Falcon perfoms. It perform such maneuvers only in the vacuum of space in the old films, but flew upright and stable in atmospheres. The two attacking TIEs seemed to be doing the same thing. Also its 30 years later, you would at think the Empire would be using at least all TIE Interceptors or something newer and retiered TIE Fighters.

    1. Actually, fun fact the moves the Falcon makes in that shot are fairly simplistic, it's just that the camera is much more active around it. Which IMO I don't really see as a bad thing as long as it's not overdone in the film itself (I mean, this is an 88-second trailer after all, there's no reason to suspect the effects shots are necessarily indicative of the film as a whole).

Also we don't quite know the state of the Empire at this point, either. It could be they're as renegade as the rebels by this point, so'd be using outdated technology like abandoned TIEs. Again, not really something we can pick out from a trailer.

    2. Making the implicit explicit: I'm writing about this for JediNews this week. Saving my comments until then.

  6. Fun fact: the Falcon clearly performs a Immelmann dive (fliping upside down at the start of it) and barely avoids smacking the ground completing it, not simple at all. The old films never showed the Falcon being so nimble in a atmosphere under the pull of gravity, only in deep space.

It is lazy to reuse old school TIE fighters without any changes, but then again it is lazy to be reusing the Empire at all. The Empire was clearly delt a fatal blow at the end of ROTJ. This makes ROTJ's ending void. They really should have come up with new villans as the Empire should be done with post ROTJ, it is what that film implies.

    1. TBH I feel like you're being a bit unnecessarily harsh on a trailer with as little footage as we have...I mean, I'm really not seeing the point of the Falcon critique very much here- are you criticizing the unrealistic physics? In a Star Wars movie?

And again, we simply don't know the plans for the Empire (if there's even gonna *be* an Empire) at all yet. I wouldn't be so determined to read the laziest possible options here when we don't even have info on the plot- heck, on character names- yet.

    2. Making the implicit explicit again: in a few days time, there will be a post under which it may be appropriate to continue this discussion.
