GM16: Artificial Life/Toast Victors

And then a bunch of 6s.

The Victors for the fifth round of the preliminaries are...

Mewtwo
"Super Effective!"

and...

Maleficent
"You poor simple fools! Thinking you could defeat me...ME! The mistress of all evil!"

Both matches won with about two-thirds of the vote; Mewtwo with 6 votes out of 10 (40%) and Maleficent with 6 votes out of 9 (66%). There's something significant about this but I can't put my claw on it...

Now, let's hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Edward Scissorhands ("...Goodbye...") and The Dude ("That's just...like...your opinion, man...").

Here's the breakdown. Check back in an hour!

The Thing About Stories Is...

Like What You Wanna Like! Defenses of Underappreciated Films (And More!) Part 2!

Last week I asked you all to write in with media and franchises you love that seem to have a sizable hatedom (aside from I-III, since I always talk about them). I swore that I would talk a little bit about each with the following rules:

1. If I liked it too, I would praise it for its greatness.

2. If I didn't like it, I would be honest with my criticism while still emphasizing both your right to like it and its right to exist, plus finding at least one genuinely nice thing to say about it (and not dismissing it as alltogether "bad" regardless of how I feel).

3. If I haven't seen it, I'll explain why while refusing to pass too much judgement and, again, emphasizing both your right to like it and its right to exist.

You all gave me a lot of great things to talk about that fall into all three categories. You gave me so much that, while I envisioned this as a single post, Blogspot wouldn't let me put all the necessary tags on it requiring me to split it into two. Yesterday I gave you all the superhero stuff, and now it's time for the thrilling conclusion!

Some Spoilers ahead.

This actually worked out for the best, since about half of the suggestions came from Superhero stuff. I'll start with that and give the rest of you a little more time to suggest more.

Some Spoilers ahead.

I Am The Night

20 years ago, inspired by Tim Burton's recently successful films, a group of writers an animators decided to make a superhero show that would transcend a kids show and would be right at home in a lineup aimed at their parents.

What they also did was create probably the definitive Batman.

Thinking Of You, Wherever You Are...

What started as one of the strangest crossovers in history ended up as one of the best selling and one of my personal favorite video game franchises of all time.

What It All Comes Down To Is: Who's Holding The Umbrella

It took me longer than I wanted to get this to you, but I hope it'll be worth the wait because I have so many strong feelings about this little film.

Batman Returns is 20

As with all reviews, SPOILERS ahead

Let's Go to the Drawing Room for a Sedative

As this is a review, there be spoilers ahead.

My father grew up watching "Dark Shadows", and thusly when the Sci Fi channel aired reruns of the series when I was but a lad, he got me hooked on it. I've forgotten most of the ins and outs over the years, though I've been watching it again in preparation for the big screen adaptation put forth by my favorite partners in crime, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.
