GM16: Miscellaneous Victors

One Final Save.

The Victors for the eighth and final round of the preliminaries are...

Katniss Everdeen
"Thank you for your consideration."

and...

Rose Tyler
"So history’s happening and we’re stuck here."

Match 1 was a flawless victory, with the Girl on Fire nabbing 100% of the matches 8 votes. Match 2 was in Rose's favor until a literal last-minute vote tied it up. I declared Rose the Victor because of her weeklong lead, but Austin Powers will be saved from total elimination due to the tie.

However, we must still hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Count Dracula ("There are far worse things awaiting a man than death."). With the preliminaries over, the contest continues as normal, and those who've made it this far are exempt from Total Elimination.

Here's the breakdown. The Real Game begins tomorrow!

Our Match 1 Victor inspired the use of the word "Victor" in this contest.

GM16: Worst Swordsmen/Battle Amongst the Stars Redux Victors

No contest.

The Victors for the seventh round of the preliminaries are...

Captain Jack Sparrow
"You will always remember this as the day you almost caught...Captain Jack Sparrow!"

and...

Sebulba
"Yoko to bantha poodoo, hehehehe..."

The story is the same for both matches: Out of a total of 7 votes, Captain Jack Sparrow and Sebulba received 6 votes each (85%), nearly flawless.

Now, let's hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to The Black Knight ("COME BACK HERE AND TAKE WHAT'S COMING TO YOU! I'll BITE YER LEGS OFF!") and Lt. Commander Data ("There are still many human emotions I do not fully comprehend - anger, hatred, revenge...")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!

The Trekkers must be furious.

A True Test of CHARActer

“Brave ones, foolish ones - Both walk not the middle road.”

Warning: Severe spoilers for “Undertale” ahead. Only continue if you have already finished the game, or have no intention of playing it (and even then I recommend at least giving it a chance first).

The Nilbog Answers

Here's finally that answer post to the "Ask the Nilbog" that I posted last month.

GM16: Trial by Fire/Egos Proportionate to their Names Victors

Are you guys intentionally tying so that I save more characters from the exile bin?

The Victors for the sixth round of the preliminaries are...

Kenny McCormick
"M Mph Mp?!"

and...

Marv
"That sure is a damn fine coat you're wearin'..."

Each match had six votes. Kenny won his handily with 4 votes (66%), but the second match was a tie, facilitating another tiebreaker which Marv only narrowly beat. That means that Rumpelstiltzkin will stay in the prospective pool for future events.

However, we must still hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Axel ("Why do I always get stuck with the icky jobs...")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!

Seriously, I'm trying to DECREASE numbers here

Speak Up, Speak Out!

(Originally Written for Jedi News)

So it’s been a while since I typed anything out. I will admit that everything about Force Awakens kind of burnt me out on Star Wars for a while, for the second time. Not to mention a couple of major personal upheavals that I won’t bother you with.

I will say that in general, it’s becoming increasingly difficult not to retread old ground when I talk about Star Wars. I’ve mentioned many times, in fact, that sometimes I feel like I’ve said what I had to say. Unfortunately, while there is still hate against George Lucas and his vision from those who claim to be fans of Star Wars, and even within his own former company, I can’t just stay quiet.

Well, I should just say “WE” can’t stay quiet. Because it’s really not about me, is it?

Geekdom Madness 2016: Trial by Fire/Egos Proportionate to their Names

This week, I start running out of ways to BS the connections between our contenders!

GM16: Artificial Life/Toast Victors

And then a bunch of 6s.

The Victors for the fifth round of the preliminaries are...

Mewtwo
"Super Effective!"

and...

Maleficent
"You poor simple fools! Thinking you could defeat me...ME! The mistress of all evil!"

Both matches won with about two-thirds of the vote; Mewtwo with 6 votes out of 10 (40%) and Maleficent with 6 votes out of 9 (66%). There's something significant about this but I can't put my claw on it...

Now, let's hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Edward Scissorhands ("...Goodbye...") and The Dude ("That's just...like...your opinion, man...").

Here's the breakdown. Check back in an hour!

No time to say enlarge, please click! I'm late I'm late I'm late!

The State of Things

So I missed my deadlines. How surprising.

So, just a quick update on a few things.

1. GEEKDOM MADNESS:
I was late. I screwed up. It will be set later today after this. I deeply apologize.

2. JEDI NEWS:
I submitted an article about a month ago that never went up, and I didn't want to bug my editor without another article, and I just haven't had anything new to say on Star Wars in a while.

3. OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
Hey, remember when I used to do posts looking at interesting points and developments from things other than Star Wars? There's a bunch of that I'd still REALLY like to do, but I can't coalesce my thoughts enough to produce something coherent. I'd like to promise they'll be here soon, but you know what tends to happen when I say things like that (R.I.P. Anniversary Reviews...)

4. ASK THE NILBOG:
I have not forgotten about that, just wanted to give another week or so for last-minute questions. I will answer one of those questions now though as a sneak preview because it pertains a lot to all of the above: Do you have a job yet? Well, no. I have an angle or two that I'm working that have very high chances, but any actual hiring consideration won't be for at least another month, and I'm almost out of unemployment. The stress over our finances and trying to secure these "angles" of possible employment have left me lightly baked to a tender and savory crisp, so that when I do de-stress I just escape into more private and personal forms of leisure (mostly Blizzard games, which I REALLY want to do a series on soon).

5. THE FUTURE:
Like I said, I don't want to make any promises that I'm not sure I can keep, and those of you who still read this have stuck with me through more burnouts and sabbaticals than it's fair to ask. But having this site really does mean a lot to me, and I want to make a better effort at giving you guys more content, and consistent content. I don't know when I'll have the time and energy for this, and I don't know what form it will take, but I hope that when it happens you'll still be there.

GM 16: Temper Temper/Walas' Nightmares Victors

Well, this had some interesting results. I had to pull out every tiebreaker method I had for Match 1 - and that tied too! In the end, I decided to go with who had the earlier lead.

The Victors for the fourth round of the preliminaries are...

Rorschach
"Must investigate further..."

and...

Gremlins
"Now was that civilized? No, clearly not. FUN, but in no sense civilized"

The Gremlins won handily with 5 votes out of 6 (83%). However, while Rorschach had an early lead, he ended up tied with Donald Duck. As a result of that and my ties in the tiebreakers, I will make Donald exempt from Total Elimination, and he will still remain in the candidate pool for the future.

However, we must still hang our heads as Geekdom Madness bids a final farewell to Seth Brundle ("I'll hurt you if you stay!")

Here's the breakdown. Check back tomorrow!
