What The World Needs Now

Well that certainly was a crazy 23 months, wasn't it?

Of course having to shack up with my ex in order to protect our immunocompromised children from a deadly virus would kill pretty much the last bit of drive to be creative for quite a long time.

While things are still crazy, two things have happened recently that means I'm finally going to do what I said I'd be doing for the last 3-4 years and start posting more again

1. I got a loaner laptop to use until I can afford something better.

2. I started seeing a therapist.

I will be starting next month with an all-new Listmas starting from scratch and sharing what my favorite things are for the first time in almost a decade. Some things have not changed much, but others have changed very much. It's my way of both easing back into regular updates and reintroducing my new self to anyone who may still be reading this outdated self-indulgent space.

After that, probably around January, I will start delving more deeply into some of my new obsessions and maybe updating you on thoughts of some of my old ones.

IF there is enough interest in it shown by March, I will consider trying to get a version of Geekdom Madness back off the ground, though there's a lot of variables with that one and life likes to find ways make me break my more ambitious promises.

In April I will finally do what I have been avoiding and putting off for years and return to the subject that most long-time readers know me for. I will finally watch and give fair judgement to the rest of Disney's Star Wars Expanded Universe films after having only ever watched Force Awakens (well, and the first season of Rebels as well as The Mandalorian up to date, but I'm talking just the movies right now). Why April? Because May is Star Wars month and I want to have that buffer to detox with my first rewatch of the Lucas 6 in years in case my opinions of Disney's EU run resoundingly negative. That said I maintain my vow that no matter what my opinion ends up being, I will never be so vicious or cruel as to berate fans of the films and I will be as fair as possible to the work.

Beyond that, we'll see how things go. I don't blame anyone for being skeptical given the last four or five times I said I'd be back on track life happened. But I hope you'll all see me finally put my money where my mouth is in the coming weeks.

Until then, for what little it may be worth given its controversy, Happy Thanksgiving.

State of the Blog Address

Still on hiatus. Still planning on restarting when life is in a better place. Now is not it, but I'm working on it. Full storytimes still in future but thought folks should know the bare bones essentials after all this time.

1. My marriage ended. We are amicable co-parents so I don't want to get into details and rehash wounds, but I needed to leave for my health. I am also taking this space to officially "come out" in a sense as Polyamorous, but I am currently single and have been since I left.

2. My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect. She is doing fine right now, but it will be a lifelong hurdle. I also recently welcomed a son - he is loved and healthy.

3. The 2016 election shook me, and in trying to keep myself educated my politics have shifted even further leftwards then they already were. To the point that some views expressed here in the past would be argued very differently today (I still stand by 99% of my overall points, I would just pick some very different angles and take new-to-me information into account). And before you ask, there's nobody I like enough for 2020 but I'll vote for whoever wins the primary anyway because even a Basic Campfire is a better option than He-Who-Makes-Almost-Anything-Look-Better-In-Comparison.

4. Taking a break from Blizzard games for a wide variety of personal reasons. Indefinite, but not permanent. Currently playing FFXIV via PS4, so if you're on the Diabolos server say Hi (Sindra Zasztragosa)

5. Still with STE trying to make that a thing. Please support us.

Happy Winter Solstace Holiday Of Your Choice.

Maintenence

Over a year has passed. I still haven't been able to afford a new Laptop, nor do I have enough reliable access to one to post regularly (it's really tough to do my usual big long screeds just on my phone).

I know I've been keeping folks in the dark for a long time. I'm hoping things work out that I can do more here in the near-ish future. I've lost a lot of the drive to post the way I used to since losing the means, but I don't necessarily want to lose this platform.

I will say anyone in the Southern New England area can come see me perform in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in August in Providence, RI with my new theatre company, the Spectrum Theatre Ensemble.

Up....date?

Here is a tentative schedule. TENTATIVE. Things are still very much in flux, and delays may still happen. But I am ready to begin to try and get down to having a presence again in the near-ish future.

1. May-ish: Geekdom Madness 2018 begins. Yes, it's way past the March Madness parody date, but it is closer to the blog's anniversary so if it has to be late, there's the perfect time. I will post the bracket about a week before I'm ready to start, as I may make some last-minute alterations.

2. Sometime between May and August: I will finally break my silence as to what the hell has been going on with me in the better part of a year. There's a lot of delicate things that are still unresolved and I have to figure out a way to talk about it honestly without making things worse.

3. Once Geekdom Madness Ends: I will try...TRY...to get back in the habit of posting at least once a week. If anyone still reads this, I am open to suggestions of things to check out and write about, just know that I don't have access to funds for current movies right now and I don't know when that may change.

I will try to get myself to sit down and finally watch Rogue One and The Last Jedi to give my two cents on it. I still love George Lucas' Star Wars more than any franchise, more than ever, but I'm burnt out on talking about it with the state of the Disney EU (and I will never not think of Disney as EU - though I don't knock anyone else for enjoying it wholesale and I've made no secret that even I enjoy several parts of it, there's still a lot of people running it that don't quite get Star Wars and take too much of the George out of it to fit neatly enough, so I lump it in with all EU: Keep what you like, discard what you don't, I-VI are the true canon). I want to talk more about other things for a while, though I'll still put some thoughts out once in a while on my precious babies.

In the meantime, I wish all of you the best, and watch this space!

Every Time I Come In, They Pull Me Back Out

Just when I was getting back on track, my life began to upend itself. Some in good ways, mostly not. I still don't feel comfortable telling the story until it is fully resolved, which may not be for several more months.

For anyone that still cares at this point that I am alive, I have not given up. It may take some more time before I find my voice here again, but sooner or later it will happen.

Until then, wish me luck.
