My music list last time was way too confusing, so this time I'm going to try and simplify it. The truth of the matter being: my music tastes are just too confusing.
Okay, so I'm reordering the way I list these things. First off, master list. Listing my favorite songs AND favorite albums, so they don't clutter up later lists:
Top 9 Favorite Bands/Artists of All Time
9. Alice Cooper
Favorite Song: The Ballad of Dwight Frye; Favorite Album: Love It To Death
8. Electric Light Orchestra
Favorite Song: Yours Truly, 2099; Favorite Album: Time
7. Queen
Favorite Song: Headlong; Favorite Album: A Kind of Magic/Innuendo (tie)
6. Lemon Demon
Favorite Song: Sundial; Favorite Album: View-Monster
5. John Williams
Favorite Song: Battle of the Heroes; Favorite Album: The Phantom Menace
4. Rush
Favorite Song: Animate; Favorite Album: Counterparts
3. The Beatles
Favorite Song: Think for Yourself; Favorite Album: Magical Mystery Tour
2. "Weird Al" Yankovic
Favorite Song: UHF; Favorite Album: Running with Scissors
1. Danny Elman
Favorite Song: Selina Transforms; Favorite Album: Batman Returns
As much as there's other music I like, there are really only nine total favorite artists I have. Also notice that the fave song is not always from the fave album.
But because there are other artists I follow from time to time, that may have made the above list if not for one or two mitigating factors, here are my:
Top 6 Honorable Mentions
6. Billy Joel
5. Cheap Trick
4. Alan Menken
3. Lady Gaga
2. The Monkees
1. Howard Shore
The rest of my lists are the same, except:
Top 5 Other Albums
5. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones LTD (The Monkees)
4. Just Another Band from L.A. (Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention)
3. Voices of Babylon (The Outfield)
2. Jagged Little Pill (Alanis Morissette)
1. The Wall (Pink Floyd)
Music is a fluid thing, tastes change here much more rapidly than anywhere else. This list will certainly fluctuate.
I really need to compile a music list of some sort sometime, since I have no real idea what my favorites of anything are (I have a favorite song, but that's about it). I know Bowie and Sondheim are high on the list, as are stuff like Chess, Company, and other assorted bits and bobs. Really need to get that down sometime.
ReplyDeleteBowie is one of those weird things (Zeppelin is another) where I like the idea, I appreciate both the enormous talent and the positive effect had on the evolution of music, but there's very little of the music itself that I actually enjoy.
DeleteHe's one, though, where his various 'eras' are so different from each other that there's probably something out there you might like. Have you checked out his Berlin era? My personal favorite of the bunch, though "Station to Station" is brilliant as well.
Delete"Little" doesn't mean "None". I will always love "Space Oddity".
